Each Unit in Reading Explorer 5 contains two main reading passages based on authentic National Geographic articles, as well as a range of academic reading tasks.
As you work through the passages and tasks, you’ll develop strategies for previewing a text, tactics for decoding vocabulary (such as using context and identifying word parts), and essential reading and critical thinking skills such as identifying referencing and cohesion (how the parts of a text link together) and understanding rhetorical purpose (how an author achieves his or her meaning).
