Course Purpose:
English for Travel is for business professionals and tourists traveling to English-speaking regions or where English is common in airports, restaurants, and shops. This course teaches essential phrases for buying tickets, ordering meals, and renting cars.

Course Structure and Story:
The course follows Peter and Maria Almar, shop owners from Zurich, on their business trip to Athens. They visit Istanbul and Athens to buy items for their shop and enjoy a few days of vacation in Greece.

Self-Study or Teacher-Assisted Learning:
The course can be used for self-study at home or with a teacher in a classroom setting, supported by a Teacher’s Guide. It is suitable for learners with some basic English knowledge from school or evening classes.

Course Materials:

  • Coursebook: Includes Key Words explanations and an alphabetical Wordlist (pages 107-113).
  • Cassettes: Crucial for listening and speaking practice, featuring real-life conversations with travel agents and shop assistants.

British and American English:
Both British and American English terms are provided in the Key Words and Wordlist sections.

Course Units:
The course consists of 11 units, each focused on different travel aspects, such as “Asking about travel” and “At a hotel.” It’s best to complete the units in order, but advanced learners can skip to relevant sections.

How to Use the Course:

    • Listen to understand without reading, then use Key Words for unknown terms.
    • Practice saying the words with the tape.

    • Lists and explains important words from the Dialogue and Listening for Information.
