The Student’s Book is organized into twelve topic-based units. Each unit begins with an impressive photograph related to the unit’s theme and an overview of the unit’s content. Each unit contains five two-page lessons covering reading, vocabulary and grammar, listening and speaking, grammar and “Use your English,” and writing. The unit concludes with a video page that accompanies National Geographic video clips found in the online student zone. These clips are designed to broaden students’ understanding of the world around them, while the tasks in the Student’s Book support comprehension and encourage further discussion of the topics.
Each unit also features:
- Tasks that actively develop students’ reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills.
- “Exam Close-up” boxes and “Exam Tasks” that offer step-by-step guidance and strategies for successfully tackling exam tasks, with opportunities to practice the advice provided.
- “Useful Expressions” boxes in the speaking and writing sections, equipping students with suitable language for communicative tasks.
- Opportunities for topic discussion in the “Ideas Focus” sections.
The Student’s Book also includes six reviews, appearing after every two units, that consolidate the vocabulary and grammar covered in those units. At the back of the Student’s Book, there is extensive reference material, including a Grammar Reference and an Irregular Verbs List to support the Grammar Focus in each unit. The Writing Reference offers a summary of key points for each writing genre, as well as a checklist. Additionally, a Speaking Reference consolidates the “Useful Expressions” presented throughout the course. Collocations, expressions, prepositions, and phrasal verbs taught in the Student’s Book are also listed for quick reference. The online student zone provides access to the Student’s Book audio and video, and the Workbook audio is available for download.
